Disability Benefits

If you have been injured and cannot work you may be entitled to Short Term or Long Term Disability benefits to supplement your income during your time away from work. Only those who are covered under a disability plan may be eligible to these benefits, some employers provide these benefits to their employees or you can buy them privately on your own. In Ontario, some common disability insurance providers are Manulife, Great West Life and Sun Life.

If you are covered and eligible to receive short or long term disability benefits you are required to submit an application to your insurance company. This application often consists of 3 parts, one for your employer to complete, one for your family physician to complete and one for you to complete. Based on the information provided by all three parties your insurer will make a decision on whether you will receive benefits to supplement your income.

Too often insurance companies deny legitimate disability claims without sufficient reason or explanation. Our lawyers and paralegals will make sure the insurance company pays you what you are owed. We will take the necessary steps to align your claim in the right direction so the insurer does not have any other choice but to pay out your claim.
